At Gulley Traffic Law, our firm is equipped to manage your traffic violation effectively and pursue the most favorable outcome possible.

While many people view a traffic ticket as a minor inconvenience, the consequences can quickly escalate. Multiple violations, speeding tickets, or failure to respond may lead to license suspension, significant surcharges, or even jail time in serious situations.
New York’s point system ranges from 2 to 11 points, and once you reach the threshold, the DMV may suspend your driving privileges. Even a ticket that seems minor can result in higher insurance premiums, financial penalties, or restrictions on your ability to drive. Ms. Gulley brings valuable experience as both a traffic prosecutor and a traffic defense attorney to help clients achieve the best possible results in New York traffic courts.

Driver Responsibility Assessment (DRA)

In New York, drivers who accumulate six or more license points within a 24-month period may face a Driver Responsibility Assessment from the DMV in addition to court fines. At Gulley Traffic Law, we help clients understand these penalties and work to reduce the risk of additional costs and license consequences.
Assessments begin at $300 for the first six points, plus $75 for each additional point. For more serious violations, penalties increase to $750 for alcohol- or drug-related driving offenses, refusal of a chemical test, or driving without insurance.

Suspensions & Revocations

In New York, accumulating 11 license points within 24 months may lead to suspension of your driving privileges. Three speeding convictions within that period may result in revocation, which requires reapplying for your license after the revocation period ends.
If you receive three speeding convictions within 24 months, your driving privileges may be revoked. Unlike a suspension, a revocation requires you to reapply for your license once the revocation period ends — it is not automatically restored by paying a fee.

Defensive Driving Courses

Defensive Driving (DD) courses — available online or in person — may provide a four-point credit toward preventing a license suspension if completed within the required timeframe in New York. At Gulley Traffic Law, we help clients understand how these courses can support their driving record and reduce suspension risks.
While these courses do not remove points from your driving record, they allow drivers to accumulate up to 15 points before the DMV issues a suspension. However, judges may still have discretion to suspend a license depending on the circumstances of the case.
